On February 12, 2017, the M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® School of Islamic Sufism® center in Houston, Texas hosted an open house. Nearly 70 guests were in attendance, including members of the interfaith community, local university professors and teachers, and students of M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi®. The program aimed to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the life and teachings of His Holiness Hazrat Shah Maghsoud Sadegh Angha. Following a tour of the Khaneghah, the teachings of Sufism were showcased through guided meditation, a live Sufi Zikr (remembrance), and traditional Persian calligraphy and artwork. The history of the School of Islamic Sufism, Professor Angha’s contributions to the sciences, and the practical applications of Sufism in Psychology were amidst the topics presented during the event. The program continued with an informal Q&A session while guests enjoyed traditional Persian foods, sweets, and tea. The guests were interested and appreciative of learning about Islamic Sufism. Some commented on the beauty and atmosphere of the Khaneghah building, how the Zikr was a moving experience, and the feeling of calmness obtained after the guided meditation. They inquired more about the history and teachings of the school and expressed interest in attending the weekly sessions.
