  • M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® Los Angeles Center

On this day, M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® Los Angeles hosted an event “Celebrating Frontline Heroes”. The event was a successful display and distribution of thousands of personal protective equipment (PPE), care packages and bags of food for the elderly.

We were honored with the attendance of Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, Tanaz Golshan Senior Representative to Mayor Eric Garcetti, Jack Kayajian Civilian Advisor to LA County Sheriff, and Oshin Harotoonian former LA City Commissioner, Chief Wordin and the firefighters of Los Angeles City Fire Department Station 73. The media attended the event, with several major stations including Channel 2 KCBS, Channel 4 KNBC, Channel 7 KABC, and Channel 35 LA City Channel.

Also in attendance were representatives from five major hospitals, including Kaiser Permanente, City of Hope and Dignity Health Hospitals who attended and received their donations of PPEs and care packages. In all, volunteers have provided 190 full medical gowns, 1250 face masks, 550 face shields, and 325 care packages that went to essential hospital staff. All items were displayed on tables that were designated to each hospital.

The event began with the early attendance of Sheriff Villanueva and a tour around the M.T.O. property, art department, and a tour inside the building. We discussed Sufism, the history of the school, the importance of service, and how we have shifted our efforts towards the M.T.O. Covid-19 Relief Campaign. When the program began with introductory and welcoming notes from Payam Ayazi and his introduction of Sheriff Villanueva's speech, which was then followed by Tanaz Golshan's speech on behalf of the City of Los Angeles.

There was a photo opportunity before the Sheriff Deputies began loading the PPE’s and care packages into their vehicle. Hospitals were able to collect their donations at designated tables where M.T.O volunteers helped with the loading of the donations.

Upon the completion of the event one M.T.O. vehicle of volunteers was accompanied by an escort of the Sheriff's squad cars towards City of Hope Hospital in Duarte, California. Awaiting them were several other Sheriffs, hospital staff, nurses and the lead doctor and director of the hospital.

Furthermore, additional teams of volunteers distributed 506 bags of foods in several low-income housing locations for the elderly. This was by far our greatest distribution of PPEs and food to date and the response was amazing. Throughout the day, all recipients were very grateful for the contributions and the relief campaign. Several of the news stations broadcast the story during the news hour as well. We are happy for the opportunity to serve such a great community and are committed to continuing to provide relief to hospitals and care facilities. They warmly greeted us and were extremely happy with the donations from M.T.O., who coordinated and collaborated with the Sheriff’s Department to get these to City of Hope.
