On May 6th 2018, the volunteers of M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® School of Islamic Sufism® hosted a celebration called Children’s Day at the Vancouver Centre. This was in honor of the birth of Hazrat Mir Ghotbeddin Mohammad Angha (May 10th), in addition to carrying on the annual children’s day tradition that Hazrat Shah Maghsoud Sadegh Angha initiated in Sufi Abad, Iran. The event had an attendance of about 20 children and teens ranging from 3 to 18 years old. The aim was to have fun and have a memorable time at Khaneghah through participation in group workshops and activities. Attendees participated in making art and crafts, engaged in practical Sufism through a deep breathing and body movement session, took part in a music and Zekr workshop, and worked together in a plant potting activity. The children and young adults also had the opportunity to create bonds and friendships amongst themselves over a sit-down lunch. Positive feedback was received as guests shared their personal enjoyment of the day. Specifically, the craft station was said to have fostered great artistic creativity, the music station inspired participants to further pursue playing instruments, plant potting was said to be a good way of representing the school’s teachings, and the Zekr, breathing, and body movement exercises were reported to be quiet meditative. Furthermore, children expressed their interest in learning more about Islamic Sufism and its practices, and parents conveyed gratitude over seeing their kids enjoy themselves in Khaneghah in a different way from its usual sessions.
