On December 3rd, 2017, the students of M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® School of Islamic Sufism® participated in the 4th Biennial Interfaith Art Exhibition, “Collaboration and Connection” hosted by the Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC), sponsored by the interfaith alliance of the Faith Trio (Kehilla Community Synagogue, Montclair Presbyterian Church, and the ICCNC) in Oakland, California. Thirty teams of artists were challenged to create collaborative artwork expressing the theme of this exhibition, and to come together for community-building and a deeper understanding of interfaith and peace. The event began with welcoming remarks by Oakland City Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan, and each of the three Faith Trio congregations. The M.T.O. Sufi Association® members of Northern California submitted a proposal to create a collaborative art piece that represents the theme of unity, based on love as a universal language. The proposal was accepted, and the artwork was created with the ultimate goal of representing love as a unifying energy in the heart of each individual, that fosters peace, diminishes a sense of separation, removes barriers, and nurtures coexistence as it brings together diverse groups of people while honoring their individual experience of God, love, and faith.
