Hurricane Harvey was the first major hurricane (Category 3 or above) to make landfall in the United States since 2005, with a record rainfall of over 50 inches and winds above 130 miles per hour. Despite the aftermath of this massive storm, on August 30, 2017, members of the M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® Houston young adults group joined in the city’s relief efforts. For the thousands of people who were rescued from their flooded homes by boat or helicopter, shelters were opened throughout the city and have been receiving donations and volunteers. Throughout the week, members of the M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® Houston center gathered donations and volunteered their time at several shelters, including the George R. Brown Convention Center and Lakewood Church. In times of devastation and need, the M.T.O. young adults group demonstrated camaraderie and compassion towards their fellow Houstonians. Their efforts will continue while Houston recovers from this devastating storm.
