  • California Lutheran University

On March 3rd, 2015, members of the M.T.O. Sufi Association® were invited to speak on Islamic Sufism at two undergraduate Introduction to Islam classes at California Lutheran University, near Los Angeles. The Sufi Association members spoke to the students about the definition and meaning of Sufism and Islam, the history of Sufism, and Islamic Art as expressed through Sufism. Information and photos about current Sufi architecture and the arts were also shared with the audience in this one hour presentation. Lastly, practices that are significant in Sufism such as the five daily prayers, fasting, Tamarkoz and zikr, to name a few, were explained to the students. The students of the course also had an opportunity to hear about current Sufi activities in the Los Angeles area, such as monthly Tamarkoz® classes and weekly sessions of the M.T.O. School of Islamic Sufism®. Some students of the university expressed much interest to visit the beautiful Los Angeles center and will be attending in the coming weeks.
