On the National Day of Service and Remembrance, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and Councilman Bob Blumenfield attended M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® School of Islamic Sufism® in Los Angeles with recognition and appreciation of M.T.O.’s collaboration in helping to end the homelessness crisis. M.T.O. led community faith-based efforts to collect Welcome Home Baskets, (which consisted of basic yet essential living items such as blankets, tooth brushes etc.) for the previously unsheltered. As volunteers worked together to gather organize, package, and label the baskets, Mayor Garcetti and Councilman Blumenfield cordially announced that M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® is a place of love, and serenity, and is a perfect location for such a heartfelt event to occur. The hundred forty-seven Welcome Home Baskets far exceeded the expected goal of hundred baskets by the Mayor’s office, and has thus far been the largest contribution to the project. “It was a perfect day!” “What an incredible event!” “This is amazing!” “What an honor to be here!” were just some of the many praises community attendees excitedly stated about the event. Mayor Garcetti and Councilman Blumenfield were provided a tour inside of M.T.O. during which they thoughtfully expressed their sincere reverence for the peaceful ambiance, and for the beauty of the center as the significance of the intricate artwork present was explained for them. It was of great pleasure to have Mayor Garcetti join us at M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® for the first time. The faith leaders of all groups at the event, upon their request, were also provided a tour, for which they voiced their admiration and appreciation of the magnificent M.T.O. center. Further discussions were held on current interfaith events and social work that M.T.O. is involved with and community groups requested future collaborations with M.T.O.
