On June 30, 2016, The M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® School of Islamic Sufism® invited the Congregation Shir Hadash to break fast for Ramadan. The event took place at the Chicago/Milwaukee center where over 50 individuals from both M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® and Congregation Shir Hadash attended. The evening consisted of talks about Sufism, fasting practices in both Islam and Judaism, and zikr. This was followed by reciting the Ramadan prayers and breaking fast over a traditional Persian dinner. This event led to many rich discussions about the similarities between the faiths and the desire to have more group events. This event also drew the attention of a local reporter and photographer who wrote about the bridge-building effort in her piece entitled “Muslims, Jews break bread for Ramadan, bridge-building” which ran in the Milwaukee newspaper Journal Sentinel on July 5, 2016.
