On September 30, 2021, M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi® Vancouver Centre joined dozens of centres across Asia Pacific, Europe and North America in celebrating the birthday of Sufi Master Professor Nader Angha by donating essentials to those in need. In Canada, this day also marks the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, which recognizes the injustice and hardships faced by Indigenous groups across Canada, remembers the loss of children to the residential school system and honours their survivors, and encourages the nation to publicly acknowledge the ongoing impacts of these traumatic experiences. To commemorate this day, M.T.O. Vancouver prepared 20 care packages for Indigenous families in the community and wore their hand-sewn orange hearts to deliveries as a symbol of their acknowledgement of the tragic history of the residential school systems. These care packages contained non-perishable food items such as Canned Beans, Tuna, Pasta, and Cereal to name a few, along with a few handmade face masks that were sewn by M.T.O. Volunteers. Overall, Volunteers expressed gratitude for the opportunity to spread love and take part in the healing process of their community.
